PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Twelve Bridges High School’s Business & Finance CTE pathway is a multi-year sequence of project-based courses beginning with Introduction to Business & Finance and progressing to Intermediate Business Communication Technologies and then to the capstone course, Advanced Business Management. This pathway immerses students in real-world business concepts and 21st-century skills. Instruction emphasizes financial literacy, professional communication, teamwork, and leadership, such as planning projects, creating budgets, and giving presentations. Students gain a strong foundation in economics, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship while practicing technical tools and problem-solving skills.

Pathway Highlights

  • Structured curriculum: Students take a sequence of courses that build from fundamentals to advanced topics. In Year 1, they learn business basics (marketing, finance, accounting) and in Year 2, they deepen skills in business communication and technology. Our capstone course is a culmination of the last 2 years of the Business and Finance pathway. Students will develop a project leader's mindset by exploring business characteristics and applying project management techniques in real-life scenarios. They'll engage in critical thinking around business ideas and practice procedures based on class topics and strategies. Students will learn the importance of all business roles by modeling successful companies. The course emphasizes not just tangible skills, but also leadership and the development of others. Key units will include Project Management, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, and Business Technology.

  • Industry-relevant skills: The program emphasizes key business skills, for example, the ability to analyze financial data, craft professional reports, design marketing plans, and deliver persuasive presentations. Projects often simulate real business scenarios, such as creating a business plan or managing a simulated company, allowing for hands-on learning.

  • Certifications & college credit: Coursework prepares students for industry certificates and meets UC “A–G” standards. Students thus graduate ready with both a high school diploma and professional certifications.

  • Real-world experience: The pathway is closely tied to local business and nonprofit partners. Students often engage in mentorships or field experiences with community companies. Intermediate and Advanced classes operate on-campus businesses that are student-run.

  • Leadership & entrepreneurship: Students can join DECA to develop leadership skills and compete in state and national events. They also undertake entrepreneurial projects and internships,  building and pitching their own startup ideas, or managing real budgets and marketing campaigns. Throughout the pathway, emphasis is placed on leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, just as in a professional business environment.

By completing the Business & Finance pathway, Twelve Bridges students graduate career-ready with a résumé of tangible accomplishments. They emerge equipped with polished technical skills and strong workplace habits. Graduates can immediately enter entry-level jobs or apprenticeships in business fields, or they can continue their education in college with a clear focus. In short, this pathway gives students a valuable head start: they gain real-world experience, industry-recognized credentials, and the confidence to succeed in any business or finance-related career.
